Dutch quality, Italian style: Heesen’s 42m Project Cayman
Revealed at the latest edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is the 42 metre superyacht Project Cayman, a full aluminium vessel developed specifically for the Americas by Heesen Yachts, Omega Architects and Hot Lab. Designed with a Fast Displacement Hull Form, twin MTU engines and lightweight construction, she offers top speeds of 25 knots whilst a modest draft of 2.15 metres makes her ideal for cruising in shallow waters.
Frank Laupman of Omega Architects comments on the project: “Cayman was specifically designed for the American market. She had a modest draft to explore the shallow waters. The Heesen 74- series has been very successful and we have developed Cayman into a compact version of these series. Cayman is typical Heesen because of the combination of comfort and speed. The exterior is typical Omega architecture: a sleek and elegant vessel.”
Just a couple of her most notable features include the substantial beach club - a feature uncommon of yachts of this size - as well as a spacious sky lounge on the bridge deck with access to the aft deck. Speaking with the Heesen and Hot Lab teams at the latest edition of FLIBS, Thom Conboy, Director of Sales at Heesen elaborated on the natural fit between the Italian design studio and the yard: “It’s 400 GT, 42 metre boat, specifically designed to operate in the Bahamas and around this area. It has a beautiful beach club, she’s a 25 knot boat, we’ve collaborated with Hot Lab who are very talented designers who have worked very closely with Heesen in the past, so it was quite a natural fit.”
Speaking of the interest the boat has received following her introduction to the industry last week, Thom Conboy continues,“The interest level at FLIBS has been spectacular - we have Galactica Super Nova here which has also been very well received, so for Heesen, we’re attracting interest in every size range right now. It’s a really exciting collaboration with Hot Lab and Heesen, and of course with Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. Frank has been the DNA of Heesen’s exterior styling for many years and is also due a lot of credit for his fine styling on Project Cayman. It’s a true collaboration on what should be a hugely successful collaboration.”
Eager to see the project come to fruition in the foreseeable future, Antonio concludes: “She’s Hot Lab, Heesen and Omega Architects: Dutch quality with Italian style. The best combination!”
